YAKIMA, Wash. — Yakima Valley Libraries is encouraging community members to read “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune and join in a series of events culminating in a virtual keynote speech by the author.
Then events are part of Yakima Valley Reads, an annual community-wide book club encouraging adults to pick up the same book and discuss with their friends, neighbors and colleagues.
“The House in the Cerulean Sea” is a contemporary fantasy by bestselling author TJ Klune, who writes stories featuring LGBTQ+ characters.
“[It’s about] acceptance and basically, differences are amazing and developing a whole family out of this group of what society has called misfit kids,” YVL programming and marketing librarian Krystal Corbray said.
More about “The House in the Cerulean Sea”:
“Linus Baker is a by-the-book case worker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. He’s tasked with determining whether six dangerous magical children are likely to bring about the end of the world.
Arthur Parnassus is the master of the orphanage. He would do anything to keep the children safe, even if it means the world will burn. And his secrets will come to light.
The House in the Cerulean Sea is an enchanting love story, masterfully told, about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place―and realizing that family is yours.”
Free copies of the book are available as supplies last at Yakima Valley Libraries. Registration is still open for the virtual keynote speech by TJ Klune on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6:3o p.m. online via Zoom. Register here.
