YAKIMA, Wash. — Life isn’t quite like an action movie. Decisions have consequences and sometimes, they backfire on you. That was the tough lesson learned by a teenager who thought they could avoid the police earlier this week.

According to a social media post from the Yakima Police Department, officers responded to calls regarding a reckless teenage truck driver. Their account of this incident, entitled “Reckless Consequences,” claims that the 17-year-old driver tried to drive off in an attempt to avoid being pulled over by the responding patrol officer.

Shortly after the teenager began to evade the police, they lost control of the pickup truck and veered off the roadway near the interaction of S 7th Ave & W Nob Hill Blvd.

That’s when the driver jumped the curb and struck a tree, causing substantial damage to the front of the truck.

However, this person managed to escape from the incident without being injured. YPD officers did not expand on whether or not the suspect will face any charges as a result of this instance. However, they did use it as an opportunity to remind their community of an important rule of thumb: “please obey the traffic laws.”
