NACHES, Wash. — The Yakima Health District has notified the Caton Landfill in Naches that its permit has been suspended until they can resolve the matter of several fires that have occurred on the property.
According to a news release from the health district, YHD and the state Department of Ecology were notified Nov. 2 of a fire at landfill and have since been working together with the landfill to “remedy a series of fire events.”
“YHD recognizes Caton LPL’s efforts in reacting and trying to remedy the series of fires at this facility,” YHD officials said in the release.
However, YHD officials report that a large fire surfaced Sunday at the Caton Landfill, located at 1500 Naches Wenas Rd. in Naches.
“As there has been no clear indication of the source or a remedy that has proven to be effective, the Yakima Health District notified Caton Limited Purpose Landfill on December 12, 2022 that their permit has been suspended until the matter has been resolved,” the release said.
