In June 2026, 72 Yakima County food establishments were inspected by the health department. Most of the Yakima County restaurants, buffets, food trucks, and grocery stores actually passed their health inspections that month (see list below), although ten of them did not.
One of the eateries that received a glowing review in June includes Jimmy John’s in West Valley. I love going there to get one of their classic #4 Turkey Tom® sandwiches minus the lettuce.
WHAT WENT WRONG: A LOOK AT JUNE’S FAILED INSPECTIONS
Failed food inspections for June listed on yakimacounty.us included two grocery stores, one convenience market, one buffet, and six restaurants. Locations included Moxee, Toppenish, Yakima, Wapato, and Sunnyside.
Their cumulative violations included:
- Food obtained from unapproved sources
- Improper date markings
- Items with high risk of listeria were not date marked
- No thermometers present
- Improper handwashing
- Physical facilities not being maintained
- No certified food protection managers present
- Worker food cards not updated
- Toxic substances improperly used
- Entrance not controlled
- Improper hot and cold food temperatures
Some of those passing food inspections in June were follow-ups for compliance because for one reason or another they failed their inspection in a previous month.
