It’s no secret that I like to visit Costco. I usually drop in on them at least once a week in the morning on Sunday, right after breakfast. It’s not overly crowded so I can get in and out relatively quickly. Since I pop in there once a week, I don’t spend a ton of money each time I’m there.
As I was cruising through my online feeds the other day, I stumbled across this bit of information that kind of surprised me. It was about a product that some people refer to as the “Australian Oreo” and is causing people to go just a little bit nuts at Costco. When shoppers find them at Costco, they have a tendency to hoard them buying six or eight boxes at a time.
It’s called Tim Tam.
According to msn.com,
‘The Original Tim Tam is a triple-layered threat: two malted chocolate biscuits sandwiching a creamy cocoa filling, all covered in a thin layer of textured chocolate. While the classic is the gold standard, they also offer varieties like White Chocolate, Mangoes and Cream and Chocolate Mint.
Now, because I love chocolate, anything sweet, and a snack that’s bite sized. I had to find out more. So, this Sunday I went looking for Tim Tam’s and I was rewarded with success.
They were not hard to find. I found them in the bread aisle. You know, in that aisle one side is bread and the other side is cookies and there they were. They were the original Chocolate Tim Tam’s for $14.69 a box. Six packages to a box. 11 cookies to a package. For a total of 66 cookies.
I managed to get all the way home and unloaded the car before I tried one. As advertised, it was 2 chocolate cookies covered in chocolate with chocolate filling and they were really, really good. Honestly, eleven of those cookies was way more than I wanted to handle, so I tasted a few and then put the rest in the fridge which turned out to be a good idea.
Hot weather is not a Tim Tams friend.
The chocolate on a Tim Tam will melt in your mouth and in your hand So it turns out that storing Tim Tams in the refrigerator is a good idea unless you want to be constantly licking your fingers. It’s hard for me to describe the flavor other than milk chocolate, but there was something a little extra to it, so that might be the malt in the cookie.
At $14.69 a box I think Tim Tam are a pretty good value. You get 66 cookies and that pencils out to a little more than four and a half cents a cookie.
So, the question I guess is, am I going to be hoarding Tim Tams anytime soon? Probably not. But if you’re looking for a chocolate crunchy snack?
Tim Tams may just be the ticket.
