The other day I heard about a new fast food chicken place coming to the tri-cities and I started thinking to myself, how many fast Food locations sell chicken now? Specifically, we’re talking about chicken strips, but that’s just the foundation of the business. You can call them chicken strips; you can call them chicken tenders; they’re easy to find in Eastern Washington.

Let’s see, we know McDonald’s and Dairy Queen do chicken strips, Chicken Shack in Wenatchee. KFC, Jack in The Box, Popeye’s in the Tri-Cities, and don’t even get me started on Nuggets.
One more choice is coming soon.
The latest purveyor of chicken tenders Coming to Eastern Washington is Slim Chickens. The original Slim Chickens restaurant was born in Fayetteville, AR. There are now 214 Slim Chickens restaurants across the United States with more on the way.
According to slimchickens.com,
‘Our mission was (and is) simple: to make the best hand-breaded chicken tenders using only the freshest ingredients, served in a friendly atmosphere where people can relax and feel at home. We use the best cut you can get for our tenders. From the outset, 100% all-natural premium tenders have been the building block for our entire menu.’

So, the bedrock of Slim Chickens business is their chicken tenders, but as you might expect, there is more than that on the menu, although it does all center around chicken. You have the tenders; you also have something that mysteriously looks like Nuggets. Various versions of the chicken sandwich are also present. One version with a spicy Ranch sauce that has me interested.
More than chicken tenders.
They also offer chicken wraps and something I’ve never had the pleasure of trying, chicken and waffles. Now you can order the waffle all by itself, but why would you do that when you can have chicken with the waffle?
Right now, the only operating Slim Chickens location in Washington state is at the Joint Base Lewis / McChord near Tacoma, but soon there will be another location in Pasco.
Back in January, the Tri-City Herald reported that Slim Chickens had sealed the deal to renovate a closed Arby’s restaurant at 5115 Road 68, in Pasco. The latest information that I have is that they’re hoping to have the location open and operating sometime in August.
I’m excited. I would go for the tenders; I’ll stay for the waffles.
