Washington Named a Top State for Small Business Shopping

Posted on by admin

Owning and running your own small business is a big dream. A dream that several people have attempted, and few have succeeded. But new research shows that if you are one of those people with a ‘go get it’ attitude and that entrepreneurial spirit, Washington is much better than the rest when it comes to small business. We have the breakdown below.

My Attempt At A Small Business

I’ve had my own joys and heartbreaks when it comes to the dream of business ownership, although mine was a bit more unorthodox.

I co-owned two LLCs (Limited Liability Company), and weirdly enough, they both stemmed from comedy. One was an improv group called Manic Thunder. Apparently, we told enough jokes and made enough laughs (and money) that we became an LLC, and ran it well for 10 years.

The other was when our LLC joined with a hotel owner’s LLC to co-own a comedy club in Yakima called The Laugh Lounge. It ran well for shy of two years before the hotel it was based in was sold.

Both of these ventures were a lot of fun and a lot of sacrifice. But looking back now, the main thing that helped us perform as long as we did was our community, our fans, our customers!

Ranking factors included number of small businesses, employees, hours worked, wages, types of businesses, food services and accommodations, and more.

Taking in the averages from the entire US, Washington came up with a score of 58.68, putting us in 12th place throughout the country, with Oregon in 10th place with a score of 60.92.

For comparison, the 1st-place state is New York with a score of 70.31, and the worst state for small business is New Mexico with a score of 26.10.
