NUFORC is the ‘officially’ recognized group that compiles and categorizes UFO reports in the US. The term UFO, or unidentified flying object, is being replaced recently with UAP or unidentified aerial phenomena. We like UFO.
WA State Ranks Very High on the NUFORC List
NUFORC stands for National UFO Reporting Center. In fact, the group is based out of Washington State, but it covers all 50 states and beyond. NUFORC is based out of Davenport, WA west of Spokane.
The term flying saucer ushered in the modern UFO era, in 1947 when a retired airline pilot named Kenneth Arnold was flying his private plane near Mt. Rainier. He saw a v formation of flying discs, who performed maneuvers impossible for known aircraft to sustain, and he described them as “flying saucers,” and the term stuck.
New Study Shows WA State is #2 in the Nation
Yaycoloringpages.com has released a study using NUFORC data, and it shows WA State is second in the US with UFO Reports per capita. Vermont is #1, while Montana is 3rd. The data is number of sightings for every 10,000 of population.
Based on the NUFORC Data, the most sightings occur in WA on August 2nd, and the average time is 9:16 PM. Texas and Georgia have the fewest. Nevada also figures prominently in the data, it’s the home of the famous Area 51.

Which NW Cities Have the Most Reports?
As for the cities who have the most per population, we were surprised to find that Boise was second, while Spokane came in at number five! The City with the fewest was New York City, but it’s possible people are so used to seeing ‘strange’ things they take it for granted.
Oh, and by the way, the most recent UFO sighting from the Mid Columbia, it was from West Richland on May 31st of this year. It was reported at 10:04 AM.
