The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department released information Saturday about a missing hiker.
The Man Apparently had Extensive Hiking Experience
The WCSO (Bellingham) said they and a number of search and rescue teams had been combing several areas looking for Steven Dorsett, who was last seen near a popular trailihead near Canyon Creek, about 12 miles south of the Canadian Border.
It was not far from the Ross Lake Recreation Area. The region is popular with hikers and campers, but can be rugged and difficult.
The WCSO reported Dorsett planned a lengthy excursion, but did not have supplies or plans to be gone longer than ten days. Searches began after he was at least a week overdue, and would have exhausted his resources.
Dorsett Was Found by Searchers, Deceased
The WCSO said Saturday afternoon, his body was recovered in “the national forest,” most likely the 789 square mile North Cascades National Park. No other information was released.
