Richland is getting a make-over. The City of Richland has announced it will begin installing new traffic calming improvements this summer.
These improvements are designed to reduce vehicle speeds, discourage cut-through traffic, and create safer streets for our community.
“This program allows the City to make targeted improvements in neighborhoods where traffic safety concerns have been identified and evaluated,” said Carlo D’Alessandro, Public Works Director. “These projects help create safer streets for everyone, including people walking, biking, driving, and accessing neighborhood destinations.”

Several Neighborhoods Will See Construction Activity in the Coming Weeks
These much-needed traffic improvements will take place in the areas of:
• Forest Avenue (north of McMurray Street) – Speed humps
• Long Avenue (between Stevens Drive and Swift Boulevard) – Speed humps
• Queensgate Drive (between Shockley Road and Summit Street) – Choker curbs, which will help to slow traffic
Speed humps are raised pavement devices intended to slow traffic speeds to 15-20 mph.
A choker curb can reduce a two-way street to a single lane at the pinch point, forcing oncoming drivers to slow down and yield to one another.
Construction is expected to take place between now and August 31. During work, drivers may experience temporary lane restrictions and brief delays. Please slow down, follow posted signs, and watch for crews working in the area.
