This Tri-Cities Street Might be the Worst for Speeders & Racing

Posted on by admin

Did anyone else notice this getting worse over the last year, or was it just me?

Speeding and Racing are Running Rampant on This Tri-Cities Street

I have noticed an area of the Tri-Cities over the last few years having a severe problem with speeders. Just yesterday, I witnessed two vehicles racing each other with one in the wrong lane and traffic swerving out of the way. I was driving in that lane and had to swerve off the roadway to avoid the wrong-way driver. It looked to me like one car was passing the car in front, causing that driver to react and speed up not letting the passing driver back in the lane. I witnessed a total of 6 cars have to swerve out of the way, and I was the second in the line. It happened so fast, that I didn’t get a good description of the vehicles except that one was a darker large SUV and the passing car was a light silver or brown sedan. Because I didn’t get a good description, I did not report the event to the police but instead decided to share the story here. You see, this is not the first time I have seen high-speed racing in this area, and I think it has something to do with its current design.

“I Am Concerned with How Unsafe This Area has Become”

The section of road I am talking about is on Vancouver in Kennewick between 10th and 45th. There is one roundabout in the middle of Vancouver, but mostly it is straight and very flat with a divide between lanes giving drivers a lot of space. I have been witnessing speeding and car racing in that area increasing over the last few years and have been getting more concerned with how unsafe that area has become. This entire area is a 35 MPH zone and I have witnessed people driving at least 3 times that speed or more. I noticed the topic was being discussed on a local FaceBook forum where multiple people also described seeing a similar problem. One person who says they live on Vancouver admits to helping with two different rollovers and has had to clear 3 dead dogs recently. They describe also seeing motorcycles doing wheelies while passing cars. What needs to happen before the city responds and decides to stop this unsafe behavior? I just hope that an innocent person doesn’t have to die first.
