“The Shining” Movie Hotel Is in Oregon and You Can Stay There

Posted on by admin

You Can Stay At The Original “Shining” Hotel In Oregon State

One of the scariest movies of the 1970s was Stephen King’s The Shining.

It’s a classic psychological horror movie and if you didn’t know it, the hotel which was the backdrop of the Overlook Hotel is just a few hours from Tri-Cities Washington.

The famous “Overlook Hotel” is supposed to be in the Colorado Rockies but you’ll be surprised to learn the hotel is a real working hotel near Mount Hood in Oregon State. You can even stay there and enjoy your own “Shining” experience.

The exterior shots of the isolated hotel are actually of the world-famous Timberline Lodge located in Mount Hood Oregon. It’s a hotel that’s been in continual business since 1937.

Here are some of the details of those amazing properties according to Timberline’s website:

Timberline Lodge stands on the south slope of Mt. Hood at an elevation of 6,000 feet. This beautiful 55,000-square-foot structure rises out of a pristine alpine landscape and is still being used for its original intent – a magnificent ski lodge and mountain retreat for everyone to enjoy.

Legendary and awe-inspiring, it’s a tribute to the rugged spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977, Timberline Lodge is one of Oregon’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing nearly two million visitors every year.

You Can Book A Room At The Lodge Made Famous By The Movie “The Shining”

The lodge became the backdrop of The Shining with exterior shots shot in 1979 with actors Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall.

If you’ve been thinking about a fun “spooky” road trip for the fall, why not check out the legendary Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood?

No worries, Jack isn’t hanging around there but I can’t say that about the red rum twins.

If you really want the right room, room 217 is the most requested room at Timberline Lodge because of the original novel by Stephen King.
