RICHLAND, Wash. — Friday, Oct. 28, is opening night for the Richland Player’s newest production, and it’s right on time for spooky season.
Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe by Eric Coble is showing at the theatre for the next three weekend.
As the clock ticks down to the first performance, volunteers kick into high-gear, getting the theatre, the set and the actors ready for an audience.
Eike Hogan is both set director and assistant director for Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe.
“For the last month I think I’ve been here every single day,” she said.
The play explores the mind of the troubled writer.
“It definitely has the opportunity for you to think deeper about what his life and about what his story is and means and reflect on what it means to you,” Hogan said. “There are moments and scenes in here that I see part of my own family history. Everyone can take away something different.”
Director Christy Valle says her imagination went wild the first time she read the script, highlight some of Poe’s most famous writings.
“It is very rare that you find such a good blend of a playwright adapting another author’s piece,” Valle said. “And, it’s giving an opportunity to go above and beyond normal theatrical adaptations.”
Valle was also excited to have new talent to work with.
“We have brand new actors, we have brand new people who have never done technical theatre, brand new people to the crew, along with our old-timers as well,” she said.
While the play can be dark and spooky at times, Valle says the cast and crew, their joy and creativity, have produced what she calls a spectacular production.
“I love having new people that just want to be part of the team, because that is what community theatre is all about.”
Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe shows at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.
