Southridge High School — Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Three Southridge High School students are facing the consequences of their actions, including potential criminal charges, for harassing, threatening and in one instance, attempting to assault another student.

According to the Kennewick Police Department, four students cornered another during their lunch break on the school’s campus on Monday, Sept. 19. They are accused of threatening to assault the student, who did not engage and reported the altercation.

The School Resource Officer (SRO) conducted an investigation and substantiated the claim, developing probable cause to arrest three students for criminal mischief, KPD officials announced.

In conjunction with Southridge faculty, the SRO arrested the student who was believed to be the main perpetrator in this altercation just before lunch. Meanwhile, the other students involved were being closely watched by school staff.

During their lunch break, two of the students approached the victim once more. KPD officials say that Southridge High School principals intervened, but the students grew more enraged and allegedly tried to push through school leaders to assault the victim. It created a large disturbance during the lunch period in front of many other students.

More KPD officers and Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the school as the two aggravated students exited the building. They were detained shortly after and brought to the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center under the suspicion of criminal mischief, disrupting a school activity, failing to obey a school official, and disorderly conduct.
