Record number of Washingtonians signed up for health insurance during open enrollment

Posted on by admin

OLYMPIA, Wash.-A record number of people signed up for health insurance during the Washington Health Benefits Exchange open enrollment period.

Between Nov. 1 and Jan. 15, 273,000 Washingtonians signed up for health insurance coverage through Washington Healthplanfinder, according to a news release on the open enrollment period.

“These historic enrollment numbers mean that more Washingtonians than ever before will have access to health and dental coverage,” Exchange CEO Ingrid Ulrey said.

According to Washington Healthplanfinder, 52,000 of the 273,000 who signed up for insurance were new customers, including those who transitioned from Apple Health or who were eligible for the first time regardless of immigration status.

Special enrollment in Washington Healthplanfinder for those who weren’t able to sign up for a plan during open enrollment is available. The next open enrollment period will be Nov. 1, 2024.
