PROSSER, Wash. — Just a few weeks from now, a chemist from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) will transport the people of Eastern Washington to a world of pure imagination with a live theatrical adaptation of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.
Dr. Jeremy Erickson is set to become Willy Wonka, a role he was drawn to when he first saw Gene Wilder portray the whimsical candy factory maestro when he was 10 years old. Based on the fantastical novel by Roald Dahl, this live production will draw elements from the books and films alike.
“Willy Wonka is a character that everyone knows, yet I think there is a slightly different Wonka in everyone’s mind,” Erickson said. “I look forward to bringing the character to life because I hope to create moments in which I fall into step with the Wonka that resides in each of the hearts of our audience.”

This isn’t Erickson’s debut at the Princess Theatre in Prosser. He’s been in several local productions since 2019, but hasn’t yet filled such a grandiose role.
“This is definitely the biggest role I’ve found myself in yet, and I’m excited for the challenge and opportunity,” he said.
