The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police are watching for illegal activity. Don’t do it. Illegally catching crabs in Washington is a serious crime.
65 Crabs Were Seized and Released Into the Westport Marina
Recently, Fish and Wildlife Officer Dean was patrolling the marina for commercial and recreational crab fishing activity. He received a report of a suspicious crab fisher with a backpack making numerous trips to a vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

The Officer Confronted the Crab Fisher About the Situation
The officer made contact with the crab fisher, who appeared nervous, and couldn’t tell Officer Dean how many crab they had retained. According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police:
Further investigation revealed a cooler of undersized Dungeness crab in the bed of the truck. When asked about the backpack, the fisher produced a backpack full of crabs. Officer Dean observed a bucket and a cooler hidden in the back seat of the truck, both full of undersized crab. In total, the fisher was in possession 67 crabs, with only two of them being legal to keep.
The Crab Fisher Faces Multiple Charges:
• Possession of female crab
• Possession of undersized Dungeness crab
• Possession of undersized Red Rock Crab
• Catching over 2 times the daily possession limit
The fisher was also warned for possession of soft-shell crab.
