KENNEWICK, Wash.- Spectrum Studios works to provide young adults on the autism spectrum, who have aged out of high school, with employment opportunities.
Jim Pridemore, Co-Director at Spectrum Studios, said not only do they work with candidates but they also work with employers as well.
“One of the best things we can do is reach out to employers and let them know this is an incredible pool of workers,” said Pridemore. “They are talented and dedicated workers we just have to get past the interview.”
Pridemore said, the employer should expect the interview to be uncomfortable on both sides of the table. “If you understand some of the idiosyncrasies of people on the spectrum you can get past that and get to the good parts of working with that person,” said Pridemore.
Spectrum Studios relies on private funding. Volunteers and community partners play a crucial role in the expansion of Spectrum Studios.
“We really appreciate any support we can get from our community,” said Pridemore.
Spectrum Studios is located on Columbia Center Blvd. Pridemore said one way you can help them is coming by to shop.
“Our young people create products and offer services to pay their own way,” said Pridemore.
