PROSSER, Wash. — The City of Prosser released a statement Oct. 19, 2022, apologizing for the City’s ‘Karen’ scarecrow entry to the 2022 Historic Downtown Prosser Decorating Contest.

It stated, “This was in no way intended to be a political statement, a likeness to any individual or community group.”

The report included that the City conducted an investigation on the issue internally and found no one who participated in the entry intended any malice. They said though the actions were regrettable, they were not intentional.

The statement continued that the design was offensive to many people, and the City is sorry. Moving forward, it said, there will be staff training as to why this was insensitive and offensive to many in the Prosser community.
