KENNEWICK – St. Joseph’s Catholic School students were released early Friday after police said a school with the same name in Utah received some threats of violence.

Kennewick Police Sergeant James Scott said Utah authorities contacted Kennewick police just before noon Friday after they found a threat to a St. Joseph School in their area. Authorities said the threat may have some connections to the Kennewick Catholic school. It was decided after KPD made contact with St. Joseph’s School officials in Kennewick that students should be released early out of caution.

“Obviously, children’s safety is a high priority for us,” Sgt. Scott said. “We had several officers out there just providing security while both our agency and the agency in Utah made attempts to locate the person who made the threats.”

Cesar Olveda, 28, of Layton, Utah was arrested by Utah authorities and is facing charges in this case. He allegedly posted a bomb threat on Facebook.

Sgt. James said it is not clear at this point if the threat was to the students in Kennewick. However, Sgt. James said KPD detectives will take a closer look at what happened and determine if the person in custody is responsible for any threats here in Washington.
