No More Cash Payments for WA Hunting, Fishing Licenses

Posted on by admin

Due to the looming retirement of the penny by the Federal government, the WA State Department of Fish and Wildlife will stop taking cash for payments in June.

  Cash Payments Stop June 11

WDFW Officials said due to state legislation where a new price rounding system is being put in place, it’s been determined it would  cost thousands of dollars to be able to continue to take cash.

According to  Jennine Griffo, WDFW licensing division manager:

“We estimated that it would cost the Department tens of thousands of dollars and half of our contracted annual vendor work hours to update our point-of-sale system to accommodate rounding the cost of transactions.”

This new procedure will apply at WDFW Official licensing locations. Approved WDFW vendors, such as sporting goods stores, can continue to take cash, however, they will have to utilize the rounding up or rounding down penny system.

WDFW urges customers to utilize their mobile app, and you can make purchases online as well by clicking here.

Official WDFW locations will stop taking cash June 11th.  Customers can still pay by check.
