KENNEWICK, Wash. – One person is in the hospital in critical condition after a house fire in Kennewick Friday morning.

According to a press release from the fire department, Kennewick firefighters were called to 206 South Quincy Street just before 1 a.m. for reports of a house on fire. Benton County Fire District #1 and the Kennewick Police Department also responded to the scene.

Responding officers said a woman on scene arrived at the home and saw the house was on fire. One of the people that lived in the home said they had been sleeping downstairs when the smoke alarm went off and they were able to escape. However, a second person in the home was not found and the woman reported she opened the front door to go inside. The woman reported she found her boyfriend just inside the doorway and dragged him out the front door of the house and onto the porch. When officers got to the scene, they carried the man into the street just as firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters were able to be at the scene within five minutes of the call, according to the press release. Firefighters reported visible flames in the home and were able to bring the blaze under control within 25 minutes of the first phone call. No one else was found inside the home after a search.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and firefighters were not hurt during the call.
