YAKIMA, Wash. – A man was arrested Friday after a shooting in Yakima.

The call for help came in just after 3 p.m. after reports of a shooting at the intersection of 80th Avenue and West Nob Hill Boulevard.

When officers with the Yakima Police Department got to the scene, they said two vehicles had crashed and they found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.

While investigating at the scene, officers said the shooter, later identified as Ryan Slavens, 22, told them he had shot the man for banging on his window.

However, investigators with the Major Crimes Division of the Yakima Police Department said it was discovered that Slavens had been involved in a previous relationship with a passenger in the victim’s car.

Witnesses said Slavens began to chase the victim in his vehicle and the two cars crashed.

Investigators said there appeared to be a fight, which ended in the shooting.

Slavens is charged with assault in the case and the investigation is ongoing.
