Lessons with Laynie: Learning to figure skate

Posted on by admin

KENNEWICK, Wash.- The Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club provides a space for the ice skating community as well as competitive skaters. With 30 skaters who regularly practice and 12 skaters actively competing, TCFSC is the only figure skating club in the Tri-Cities.

Janine Adamson, President of the TCFSC and a figure skating instructor, says she moved to the Tri-Cities in 2010 but has been teaching this sport for the past two decades.

“I want everyone to experience it at the level they want,” says Adamson. “I want them to feel the magic, the way it feels to glide on the ice.”

Adamson says there is a lot of interest in ice skating in the area, especially with the Tri-City Americans and the space available at the Toyota Center.

“Sometimes people go to a birthday party and they are like ‘oh that was so fun I want to skate’,” says Adamson. That’s why Adamson says the Arena offers lessons for any level, no matter how old.

“I’ve had a lot of grandmas over the years that say ‘I’ve always wanted to learn how to skate, but now I just want to learn to skate so I can go with my grandkids,’” says Adamson.

The Toyota Arena offers lessons for kids as young as three years old to take a group lesson. Once they are more confident, they can move into a more advanced group lesson and once they are ready to compete can join TCFSC for more individualized training.
