Kirstie Alley’s children announced her death Monday evening. True and Lillie Parker said she died after a short battle with cancer.
NATIONAL – Kirstie Alley, Emmy award winner and star of the big screen as well as television, has died, according to her family.
Alley’s children, True and Lillie Parker, made the announcement on her social media pages.
“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” the statement said. “She was surrounded by her closes family and fought with great strength. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
Alley starred in roles both on the big screen and television. She made famous the role of Rebecca Howe on NBC’s Cheers, and won a Golden Globe award for best actress and an Emmy for outstanding lead actress in 1991. She went on to star in television shows like Veronica’s Closet, Fat Actress and Scream Queens. She also competed on season 12 of Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer.
Her movie credits include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Look Who’s Talking, and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Long-time friend and former costar, John Travolta, paid tribute to Alley on his social media pages and said “I love you, Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
