KENNEWICK, Wash. — A young teenager is behind bars as part of an investigation into the shooting of another juvenile in the Tri-Cities on Saturday night.
According to a release from the Kennewick Police Department, officers got the call to respond to the 800-block of N Volland St while patrolling the area around 9:20 p.m. PST on October 15. Dispatchers informed them there was an assault involving a weapon, but details were scarce.
When they arrived, KPD officers found a young victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. They rendered immediate care while medics rushed to the scene.

Soon after, the Kennewick Fire Department crews arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital for more intensive care. As of Sunday morning, the victim was being treated and is likely to survive — though the extent of the gunshot wound or its specific location hasn’t been made public.
In the meanwhile, Kennewick police investigators recovered enough information to find a suspect, who was subsequently arrested. This individual’s identity is being withheld because they are only 14 years old.
The Benton County resident was promptly transported to the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center, where they face charges for unlawful possession of a firearm and third-degree assault. Due to the suspect’s age, no further details on their identity were revealed.
This is an active investigation being spearheaded by the Kennewick Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
