KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Kennewick School District has placed three schools on lockdown after reports came in about a weapon in a classroom at the high school.
Southridge High School, Chinook Middle School and Sage Crest Elementary are the schools that the district currently has in lockdown.
“We request that parents/guardians stay away from the Southridge High School to clear way for law enforcement to to their job,” school district officials said in a news release. “If you are in the area, please park at the Southridge Sports Complex.”
According to the school district, the Kennewick Police Department received a call Friday morning from someone reporting that there was a weapon in a classroom at Southridge High School.
District officials said police are currently searching the building to determine whether the report they received is credible. The latest release from the school district just before 12:30 p.m. confirms that no weapons have been found at this time and police are still searching.
“We are receiving reports that this may be part of a hoax happening at multiple schools in the state,” the district said. “When we have more information, we will share it.”
Spokane Public Schools also issued lockdowns for several schools Friday morning due to threats made at at least two area high schools, which “appears to be a prank swatting hoax.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated with new information as soon as it becomes available.
