National Night Out is a community event designed to bring neighborhoods together, provide events for the whole family, and help establish closer relationships with law enforcement. 131 cities in WA hold them, 17,000 nationally in 50 states, and they’re usually held on the same day all across the US.
Kennewick Reschedules National Night Out Due to Smoke, Air Quality Issues
Richland has already rescheduled theirs for August 20th. at Howard Amon Park, now Kennewick has moved theirs to the same date, at the Southridge Sports Complex.
And, It’s Free!
Air quality from northwest and Canadian fires has created unhealthy air, according to readings from the Benton Clean Agency. The revised event will be at 5 PM til 7:30 PM at the Southridge Complex, and according to the City, a very large and diverse menu of events:

- Hamburgers, cheeseburgers and hot dogs provided by Tsunami Catering (free for the first 1,000 people)
- Kona Ice (free for the first 850 people)
- Knockerball Inflatables
- Big Top the Clown
- City and community partners’ vehicle displays
- Meet Kennewick City Council and city staff
Gesa Carousel of Dreams will be open and offering free rides.”
The City thanked a number of supporters, including Tsunami Catering, Kennewick Police Department Foundation, Kennewick Union Firefighters, Local 1296 and RAZR Restoration, for makikng it possible.
Walla Walla has also cancelled theirs for the same reasons, they said they will announce when or if a make-up date is named. It is believed this is the first time in many years, if ever, that Kennewick or other communities have had to cancel this major event.
