KENNEWICK, Wash. — A fundraiser to help with Washington State Patrol Trooper Dean Atkinson’s recovery has been planned for the Tri-Cities.

Summer’s Hub in Kennewick, a food truck mecca, will be hosting the event.

Trooper Atkinson was shot in the face and hand while confronting a suspect last week. WSP and his father told news outlets that Trooper Atkinson drove himself to the hospital in Walla Walla and was flown to Harborview for treatment.

Earlier this week, Atkinson’s fiancé, Meagan, posted on a Walla Walla coffee shop saying Dean is able to answer yes or no questions with a thumbs up or down and, he pumped his fist when told he is free to return to duty when he heals, if he chooses.

Now, a fundraiser is planned in the Tri-Cities to raise money for Atkinson’s recovery fund.

We’re told Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond proposed the idea at a Sunrise Rotary Club; his speech inspired members to raise $2,500 for Atkinson in just minutes.

The fundraiser will be from 5-8 PM at Summer’s Hub in Kennewick on October 11th. Several Walla Walla breweries, including Big House Brew Pub, Quirk Brewing, Burwood Brewing and Five Dollar Ranch, will donate kegs, the proceeds sold by purchasing a cup of beer will go to the Trooper’s recovery fund.

If you’re unable to make the fundraiser on Tuesday the 11th, KAPP KVEW will have an independent link to donate online. Please check back for that link. You’ll also be able to donate without purchasing beer at the fundraiser at a booth.
