EPHRATA, Wash. — An hours-long standoff took place in the Ephrata Walmart parking lot overnight.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says they assisted the Ephrata Police Department after a man pulled a knife on officers before barricading himself in an RV. This happened around 8:30 p.m. Officers from Soap Lake also responded.
The Tactical Response Team arrived about an hour later. The team consists of members from the Moses Lake Police Department, Quincy PD, Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
The TRT spent several hours of attempting to negotiate with the man in the RV. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says a flash bang concussion device was detonated outside the RV to get the man’s attention and compliance. Tear gas was also used.
Shortly after 11 p.m., a K9 was sent in and the man was taken into custody.
The suspect was taken to Columbia Basin Hospital for treatment of the wounds from the K9 and tear gas exposure.
Officials say he will be taken to Grant County Jail once released.
