Jimothy, a strange-looking raccoon from the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, has captured the attention of the world and now has his own bobblehead.
If you haven’t seen him, he is unusually round with no visible neck and has accumulated more than 10 million views on a single video of him simply scurrying across a street.
He now has an official bobblehead, to join a neighborhood mural, fan art, merchandise, a tattoo discount in Tacoma, an honorary degree from the University of Washington, and an official city proclamation declaring “Jimothy Summer.”
He is a raccoon, but seems to be living better than most of us.
The Story Behind the Sensation of Jimothy the Seattle Raccoon
Kiana Hall spotted the uniquely shaped critter roaming Ballard and named him Jimothy because he simply looked like a Jimothy. Jimothy has a spine deformity called short spine syndrome, which compresses his vertebrae, giving him that distinctive round orb-like appearance with no visible neck.
Veterinarians note he is healthy, mobile, and shows no signs of pain, but is just built differently. After being spotted, the internet absolutely lost its mind.
The Seattle Times called him a “scrappy hometown hero.” Seattle City Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck issued an official proclamation honoring his resilient spirit.
The phrase “hot Jimothy summer”, which is a play on Megan Thee Stallion’s famous line, is now genuinely being used by real people in real conversations.
The Bobblehead Is Real, and You Can Buy One
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee unveiled the first official Jimothy bobblehead this week. It shows him in a running pose on a grass-textured base, orb body, no neck, eyes forward, clearly eyeing his next Ballard adventure. I am guessing the photo on the site is not a reflection of the actual product you will receive, but who knows.
Each bobblehead is individually numbered, costs $30 plus $8 shipping, and ships in December. They are available exclusively at bobbleheadhall.com.
Jimothy Summer is real, and so is the bobblehead.
Even though they both seem fake, if you ask me.
