A former Department of Energy Office building that opened in 1980 will now become the future home of the Richland Police Department.
The Jadwin Building Sale Closes for City of Richland
The building, considered the 4th tallest in the Tri-Cities was home to the Department of Energy operations for 39 years then it was sold in 2019. Since then it had two different owners.
Originally sold to 1200 Jadwin LLC for $3.5 million, it was to be renovated into apartments but that never really materialized. The City released a statement that read in part:
“Richland’s current police station no longer meets the space and operational needs of a growing community. Facility studies determined that approximately 56,500 square feet will be needed to support police operations over the next 15 years. 1200 Jadwin Avenue offers adequate space to meet those needs while also offering flexibility to accommodate future City services and growth as needed.“
The Sale Price was Lowered a Bit, Saving Almost $1 Million
The total sale price was $6,999,999, which ended at $7,091,406.34 which includes all associated fees. For more details about the project, and to follow its progress, you can see the project description and full details by clicking here.
The City plans to offset the costs to renovate and remodel the building will be offset by a land sale in the Northwest Advanced Clean Energy Park. Atlas Argo reportedly is planning to build a data center there.
No official timetable has been released yet, but it is expected very soon.
