RICHLAND, Wash. — One building, seven businesses, seven women.
One of them is Wendy Howell, the owner of Chic and Unique Furniture in Kennewick and Richland.
“So, I’ve kind of hand selected vendors that I want to bring with me, and I think we’re bringing so much to the Parkway,” Wendy said.
Her location in The Parkway includes vendors inside, who sell a plethora of items and caters to most shoppers. There’s even a Man Cave set up by Wendy’s husband.
Wendy got her start in Salem, Oregon; where she would flip furniture in her garage.
Eventually, she started her own business and grew bigger, then:
“COVID hit, shut us down, we moved here to be with family, and started the Kennewick store, and here we are!” she said.
Not only does the business appeal to different tastes, Wendy is also helping her vendors, who are all women, live out their dreams.
“It’s just a dream come true, it really is,” Shirley Garza said.
Garza is the owner of For Heaven’s Sake Teas. She offers a variety of loose-leaf blends and tea accessories to keep you warm.
“And when it’s good, you’re going to sit there and enjoy it, it’s a time to just calm down,” Garza said.
For Sarah Schuh, opening her floral boutique In Bloom Boutique, is a dream decades in the making.
“This is something I’ve been wanting to do for 30 years, and the opportunity came up and so I just decided to go for it,” she said.
In Bloom Boutique offers fresh bouquets, hand-tied pieces in addition to clothing, accessories and home decor.
Just steps away is Schuh’s daughter, Rebekah who has an interior design business.
“Anything from a refresh to a remodel to a new build i really specialize in that mid-century look,” Rebekah explained her expertise.
Then there’s mother to four and wife Ashley Mallery with something for the young ones with Woodland Kids.
“I just want something that will last, for a while – with four kids we’ve gone through a lot of stuff in our house and so just trying to bring unique, fun toys that will last for a decent price,” she said.
Sarah and Rebekah aren’t the only mother-daughter duo. Wendy’s mom, Kelli Sawyer has her art for sale in the store, across from Angela Tokooya’s festive creations.
“Been a big year for me,” Tokooya said.
She’ll also host wreath making classes as the holidays get closer.
Wendy calls the big team in her store, an even bigger blessing.
“Everybody’s been so supportive and welcoming to all of us, it’s been fabulous.”
