Just after 12 noon on Friday December 9th, 3 Kennewick schools went into lockdown.

Southridge High, Chinook Middle School and Sagecreast Elementary locked down

According to an email and text alert sent out by KSD via their new Parent Square alert program, Kennewick Police on Friday received a phone call that there was a weapon in a classroom at Southridge High School.

SHS has been put on lockdown, as well as nearby Chinook Middle School and Sagecrest Elementary, the last two because of their proximity to SHS.

According to the alert:

“Police are currently searching the building to find out if there is any credibility to the report.  We are receiving reports that this may be part of a hoax happening at multiple schools in the state. When we have more information, we will share it.”

Parent Square is the latest digital email and text feature offered to parents in KSD, it allows for instant alerts to be sent via text and email.

We will monitor this situation for more developments.

ALSO this additional alert was sent at  12:27PM

“We request that parents/guardians stay away from the Southridge High School to clear way for law enforcement to to their job. If you are in the area, please park at the Southridge Sports Complex. Again, no weapons at the school have been found. Police are still searching the building while it is in lockdown. We will send out an update when we have more information.”
