We are all conscious of the cost of living, and the cost of buying a house. Last year, my youngest son was shopping for a home here in the Wenatchee Valley and found that the average price of a modest first home was running at about $470,000.
Now if you move that over into the Seattle area, hang on to your socks. If you’re working in Seattle and you want a home that’s close to where you work, you’re looking at about $1 million minimum for a starter home.
This is causing Seattle workers to look outside the Seattle market for a place to live.

Why Bremerton?
According to seattletimes.com,
‘Bremerton has long attracted Seattle buyers looking for a slower pace of life and affordable houses. This spring, as high prices continue to push people outside of the Seattle area, home shoppers see the advantages of Bremerton, including an easy commute by ferry to the city in under an hour.’
This is especially convenient if you work in the Seattle downtown area. The Washington State ferry system has made it very easy to live in some of the outlying areas and still conveniently commute to work and back.

With Bremerton you get a small town feel with easy access to the big city.
Now the Bremerton home market seems to be very active. Desirable homes are selling quickly, sometimes with offers of $10,000 to $15,000 over the asking price. It seems to be a buyer’s market with buyers looking for concessions and to being willing to walk away if they don’t get what they’re looking for.
Even with this pressure it seems like sales are nowhere near what they were back in 2022.

With easy access to the Washington State ferry system, towns like Bremerton and Port Townsend can feel like a suburb of Seattle.
