Encountering Injured Wildlife Is Part of the Job for Troopers
Often, a fledgling falls from a nest into traffic, or a bird is found injured near the roadway.
WSP is not equipped to rehabilitate wildlife. However, troopers do occasionally find themselves in situations where they come across injured wildlife on highways.
Troopers Will Carefully Secure Injured Wildlife in Their Cruiser and Transport Them
• If you encounter a wild adult animal you believe is injured, call PAWS Wildlife Center at 425-412-4040. A staff member will help determine how to help the animal and guide you through the situation.
• Visit the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website to locate the closest licensed rehabilitator to you. You can call 425-775-1311 for other Washington state licensed wildlife rehabilitators.
PAWS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center operates an emergency hospital and specialized recovery facilities designed to rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, restore them to full health, and return them as functioning members of their wild population.
