Leonard Williams has agreed to a three-year, $90 million extension to remain in Seattle, and I think it could be the most important signing of the year.

I think Williams is the heart of this entire team. Not just the Dark Side defense, but the entire team.

Re-signing Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Extending Devon Witherspoon. Keeping Rasheed Shaheed and Josh Jobe. Letting Kenneth Walker, Boye Mafe, Coby Bryant and Riq Woolen walk.

All of those moves matter, but I don’t think they matter as much as the Williams extension today.

Why This Extension Matters More Than Any Other

The confetti from Super Bowl LX has long settled, but the Seattle Seahawks have spent the offseason making the decisions that determine whether that championship was a peak or a beginning.

JSN is the most electrifying weapon on offense. Devon Witherspoon is one of the best corners in football. Both of those extensions were necessary and important.

But Leonard Williams is something different. He is the standard setter. The locker room alpha. The player teammates and coaches point to when they talk about what this organization is about.

Watching him at Lumen the last two seasons has been a joy, not just while on the field but with his interactions with fans also.

He is entering his 12th NFL season at age 32, and he plays like someone trying to make the team every single snap. No coasting. No protecting his body for the paycheck. Just relentless effort every practice, every game, every play. They talk about that on Hard Knocks, but it has been obvious to most fans for a while.

That is who the Seahawks just paid $90 million to keep today, and I think he is worth every penny.

Williams Numbers Back It Up Completely

Williams recorded 11.0 sacks in 2024, one of the best seasons of his career. During the Super Bowl championship run in 2025, he added 7.0 more sacks and 33 combined tackles.

He is a three-time Pro Bowler who anchors one of the most dominant defensive fronts in the NFL from the interior by plugging gaps, pressuring quarterbacks, and making life miserable for opposing offensive lines every week.

$30 million per year makes him one of the highest-paid defensive tackles in the league, but I think his production and leadership justify every dollar.

The Dark Side Defense in 2026

With Williams locked up through his age 34 season, the Dark Side defense has its foundation secured. Pair him with Dante Fowler Jr., DeMarcus Lawrence, Derick Hall, and Devon Witherspoon, and the Seahawks keep the core of the championship-caliber defense together for at least the next three years.

Seattle has identified who they want to build around and have paid them. Williams at $90 million. JSN locked up long-term. Witherspoon extended.

This franchise knows what it has.
