Green River Killer transferred from Walla Walla to King County Jail

Posted on by admin

WALLA WALLA, Wash.-Gary Ridgway, the Green River Killer who pleaded guilty to killing 49 women and girls, has been transferred to the King County Jail.

Ridgway had been serving 49 life sentences at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla for a string of murders dating back to 1982 before his transfer on Monday, Sept. 9.

According to KING 5 reporting on the transfer, Ridgway was booked into the King County Jail on an “institutional hold” and the reasons for the transfer have not been disclosed.

Ridgway was arrested in 2001 when detectives were able to match his DNA to several women who were murdered in the 1980’s.

The remains of 48 women and girls were eventually recovered and identified during the investigation of the Green River Killings and Ridgway, now 75, pleaded guilty to all 48 murders in exchange for prosecutors not seeking the death penalty in 2003, according to KING 5’s report.

Ridgway later pled guilty to a 49th murder and was sentenced to 49 consecutive life sentences.
