Fatal Pedestrian Collision Closes SR-167 Overnight in Renton

Drivers traveling through Renton late Wednesday night encountered big delays because of a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

Crews closed part of State Route 167 during the investigation.

Trooper Rick Johnson with the Washington State Patrol says that troopers first responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision on northbound SR-167 near the northbound I-405 ramp shortly after 11 p.m.

Traffic Diverted for Hours After Fatal Crash on SR-167

The crash led to an extended closure as investigators worked at the scene.

All northbound SR-167 traffic was diverted onto northbound I-405, with Washington State Patrol warning drivers to expect significant delays and to use alternate routes.

Several hours later, Trooper Johnson shared a heartbreaking update, confirming that the pedestrian had died from their injuries after being struck.

The roadway eventually reopened later in the morning after investigators completed their work at the scene.

More Questions Than Answers After Pedestrian Killed on Highway

The collision also sparked questions on social media, with some drivers wondering why a pedestrian was on a highway where foot traffic is uncommon.

At this point, the Washington State Patrol has not released any details about why the pedestrian was on SR-167 or what circumstances led up to the collision. Those details will likely become clearer as the investigation continues.
