RICHLAND, Wash. — Calling fiber arts fans, if you’re looking for knitted, woven, spun, crochet, tapestry or felted products, members of the Desert Fiber Arts Guild are hosting their 10th Annual Fall Market Friday and Saturday.

It’s open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Church in Richland, 1124 Stevens Dr.

“Silky scarves; there’s hats and mittens and gloves. There’s jewelry, there’s keychains, there’s potholders,” listed DFA President, Besty Dickinson. All of the items are hand-crafted by DFA members.

There’s all sorts of crafts, from wearable to household decor.

“I helped set up yesterday and I was touching and feeling everything. So, I recommend people come and fondle our fibers today,” Dickinson laughed.

This event is their one annual fundraiser for the Guild. It also acts as a way to highlight member talent and creativity.

“One of these items might take hours and hours and hours to make. And there’s a lot of time and energy put into design and construction of the product,” said Dickinson.

Interactive demonstrations around the fundraiser

Not only are items for sale, but guild members are also walking around, or sitting at their looms demonstrating their various fiber arts techniques.

“There’ll be demonstrations throughout the day, and there’ll be different kinds of skills being demonstrated,” said Pam Root, one guild member who has been with the DFA for six years.

There’s even a few looms people can use to try their hand at weaving with help from DFA members.

The DFA is always looking for more members, so if you can’t make it to the market, but you’re interested in learning more, find their website here.

The DFA has been around in the community since 1974, with the motto, “Each one, teach one.”

“We have a lot of study groups where we get together and learn how to do different things together, and we have some very talented people to help us learn,” said Dickinson.
