Fire restrictions remain in effect on all Bureau of Land Management lands in Oregon and Washington as wildfire activity continues across the region. BLM officials are urging the public to check local fire restrictions, closures and air quality before heading outdoors, warning that smoke and fire conditions can change rapidly.

“As wildfire smoke continues to affect communities across the region, we encourage visitors to stay informed and make decisions based on current conditions,” said Kim Prill, acting BLM Oregon/Washington State Director. “Conditions can change quickly, so checking air quality and local closures before your trip can help you avoid unnecessary health and safety risks.”
As been the case for most of the summer, fireworks, exploding targets, sky lanterns, tracer ammunition and steel-core bullets remain prohibited on BLM lands.

Officials say following restrictions can help prevent additional wildfires during an already busy fire season. Anyone responsible for starting a wildfire could face fines of up to $100,000, up to a year in jail, and be held responsible for firefighting costs.
