CareOregon said the company believed the risk of fraud or identity theft is low.

OREGON – CareOregon is warning members of its organization after the company discovered a data breach that involved release of personal information.
The company said marketing letters were sent out to the wrong addresses of CareOregon members. These letters contained protected health information and impacted more than eight thousand members.
Those people impacted include 5,589 CareOregon members, 1,849 Jackson Care Connect members and 584 Columbia Pacific CCO members. The company said it has notified all affected members of the breach. CareOregon said it believed the risk of fraud or identity theft in this instance is low, however, members should monitor their credit reports.
According to the company, an internal investigation revealed the proper policies and procedures were in place and that’s how the breach was discovered. They said employees were required to undergo additional training to stop something like this from happening again.
Members who are concerned about how it will affect them are encouraged to review their account statements. CareOregon also asked members to look for suspicious activity on account statements and credit reports. If a member finds suspicious activity, CareOregon suggested members do the following:
- Call the financial company where the account is located
- File a report with law enforcement, the state attorney general and/or the Federal Trade Commission
- Set up fraud alert on credit reports. Members can do so by contacting any of the three credit agencies: TransUnion, Experian, Equifax
CareOregon also encouraged members to contact the company if they had concerns or questions. Members can call them at 888-712-3258 or TTY 711.
