“I was thinking back to my old 4H days and what an integral part fairs are to agriculture. We’re really fortunate there are generous donors like the fair,” said Eric Williams.
KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Benton-Franklin Fair and Rodeo raised and donated more than $2,100 for Second Harvest Tri-Cities.
The majority of food distributed by Second Harvest is donated from processors, grocery rescue and especially farmers.
The fair board raised money through the first day of admission tickets. With that money, they will provide more than 9,500 meals for those in need throughout the community.
“I was thinking back to my old 4H days and what an integral part fairs are to agriculture. We’re really fortunate there are generous donors like the fair,” said Eric Williams.
Eric Williams, the Community Partnerships Director with Second Harvest, said it’s a partnership that goes hand-in-hand because of their agricultural ties, and they’re especially grateful.
“An enormous thank you to people. We rely on donations, we rely on volunteers and it just all comes together to help feed people especially kids and seniors,” Williams said.
The goal of Second Harvest is to fight hunger and feed hope. The organization brings community resources together to feed people in need.
“It’s that sort of dedication of just a sincere genuine desire to help feed their neighbors, especially kids, just to make sure people have enough food to eat,” said Williams.
To donate to Second Harvest, you can find their locations here.
“I’m often asked, which is better: a donation of food, or a donation of money? And right now, the answer is yes. We can use both now,” Williams said.
