KENNEWICK, Wash. — What began as a request for deputies to check on an animal accused of attacking a neighbor resulted in search warrants and the seizure of various stolen items from across the region at a Benton County residence overnight Sunday.

According to a social media notice from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence for reports that a pet tried to attack a neighbor. When they arrived at the scene, deputies noticed a haul of suspicious items including several matching theft descriptions from around the region.

Upon the revelation, Benton County Deputy McDermott wrote a search warrant. He received backup from the Kennewick Police Department, Prosser Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

When they served the search warrant, authorities allegedly discovered four stolen cargo trailers, a stolen vehicle, a stolen Big Tex trailer, a 500-gallon fuel trailer reported stolen from a farm in the area and a BMW motorcycle stolen out of Yakima.

In the meanwhile, Deputies received help from the West Richland Police Department in responding to a fight at a bar and grill, a stolen vehicle spotted at a gas station/cafe and an assault in the area.

Needless to say, it was a busy night for authorities in Benton County, but they were able to recover items that were reported missing from across their jurisdiction and in turn, will help get those belongings back to the rightful owners.

The pet accused of attacking a neighbor was also turned over to the Benton County Canine Shelter.
