A Pierce County DV Suspect Tried to Run Over an Officer, Arrested

Posted on by admin

A dangerous pursuit in Pierce County ended on SR-507 at Vail Road this afternoon after a suspect fleeing a Domestic Violence Assault in the First Degree charge attempted to run over an assisting officer.

A crew of Washington State Patrol troopers and Pierce County Sheriff’s Office are on scene with the collision investigation.

Extensive road closures are in place in the area as of early Friday afternoon.

DV Suspect Police Chase Ends in Arrest After Officer Almost Ran Over

Pierce County Sheriff’s Office initiated a pursuit of a suspect wanted for Domestic Violence Assault in the First Degree, one of the most serious domestic violence charges under Washington law, and typically involving a weapon or strangulation and carrying felony level consequences.

The suspect decided to run instead of surrender.

A police pursuit continued, with assisting agencies joining in. Sometime during the pursuit, the suspect made the decision to use the vehicle as a weapon and tried to run over an officer who was working to help stop the chase.

That act alone escalates the charges this suspect is facing by a large margin. Attempting to run over a law enforcement officer during a pursuit is considered Assault in the First Degree under Washington state law.

Assisting Officer from the Roy Police Department Stops the Suspect

It was an officer from the Roy Police Department that eventually brought the pursuit to a stop.

The collision that ended the chase is now under investigation by WSP troopers and PCSO on SR-507 at Vail Road, with extensive road closures affecting the area.
