On August 11, 2026, a Benton County jury returned a guilty verdict against Skyler Ring on two serious counts, bringing the case one step closer to being finished.
He was convicted of multiple charges, including Rape of a Child in the Second Degree with an Aggravating Circumstance Allegation of Position of Trust, and Child Molestation in the Second Degree with the same aggravating allegation.
Position of Trust Charges Make This Case Much More Serious
The Position of Trust means Ring held a position of trust in relation to the victim, which is an aggravating factor in the law that usually increases sentencing and the severity of the crime.
Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date; details about that have not been released yet.
The Benton County Prosecutor’s Office specifically recognized Richland Police Department Commander Chris Mason and Detective Cameron Fancher for their thorough investigation. A conviction is only possible if a strong case was laid out before ever reaching a courtroom.
Assistant Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Anita Petra was also recognized for her continued dedication to obtaining justice for victims.
The Richland Police Department added their own recognition of the partnership between their detectives and the Prosecutor’s Office, saying their close collaboration is what ensures offenders are held accountable.
The Person Who Mattered Most in Getting the Conviction
A survivor of the suspect stood up in a courtroom and testified against the person who hurt her. The Benton County Prosecutor’s Office thanked her directly and in the press release for her strength and bravery.
Ring faces a potentially lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of rape of a child in the second degree and child molestation in the second degree, with the jury also finding aggravating circumstances involving a position of trust.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
