UNION GAP, Wash. — Emergency coordinators and fire leaders out of Yakima are aware of a fire burning near the greenway area of Valley Mall Blvd and Interstate 82. Although the optics might make it appear like danger is imminent, this situation is under control.
According to Suncomm 911 Communications Yakima and further confirmation from the Yakima Fire Department, this fire is expected to burn for several days. The source of the flames has been deemed very difficult to reach because of its location and hazards in the way.

However, this situation is under control at this juncture. Emergency leaders ask that community members refrain from calling 911 about this fire unless the situation escalates and you consider it an imminent threat.
