WAPATO, Wash. — Yakima County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a suspect this morning while responding to an incident in Wapato.

YCSO spokesperson Casey Schilperoort said the incident occurred in the early morning on Thursday in the 500-block of North McKinley Road in Wapato. Information about the events leading up to the shooting was not immediately available.

“As a result, a suspect was shot and is deceased despite extensive efforts by deputies to revive him,” Schilperoort said in a news release. “Deputies are uninjured and on administrative leave in accordance with our policy.”

Schilperoort said the names of the deputies will be released in the future. The Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit will be handling the investigation.
