Public Domain Mickey Mouse Is Killer in New Horror Movie

Posted on by admin

Who would ever picture Mickey Mouse as a serial killer? You won’t have to wonder, a horror film with the Disney icon is coming to the big screen.

On Monday (Jan. 1), Walt Disney’s breakout character, an iteration of Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie, was put into the public domain. On the same day, director Jamie Bailey released the trailer for a horror comedy thriller with the character entitled Mickey’s Mouse Trap.

The movie follows a girl named Alex, who is celebrating her 21st birthday but is stuck working the late shift at the local amusement arcade. Her friends end up surprising her while at work for an impromptu party. However, a masked killer dressed as Steamboat Willie is ready to hunt all of the friends down.

The trailer features the tag line, “The mouse is out.”  It also ominously shows a man with a Steamboat Willie face mask peering over at the camera in the dark with red light and fog, ready to attack the youngsters.

Watch the trailer for the film, below.

The movie stars Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek and Simon Phillips.

“We just wanted to have fun with it all,” Bailey said in a press release. “I mean it’s Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows.”

Mickey’s Mouse Trap is expected to premier in March 2024, however, th film has not announced its confirmed release date.
