Popular Food Additive Is Now Officially Banned in Washington State

Through the years my wife has given me a hard time with my choices of beverages because of additives and now one of those additives is being banned by the FDA in Washington State

Red Dye #3 Has Been Banned In The Evergreen State (Washington State)

According to an article from Yahoo.com, Red Dye #3 found in quite a few foods is now officially banned by the Federal Drug Administration.

You can find the popular additive in frosting, gummies, toaster pastries and a host of other foods.

I know that my liquid fruit water enhancer has Red Dye #3.

So what does that mean for manufacturers and families going forward into the future?

The article states:

Manufacturers who use red dye No. 3 — also known as FD&C Red No. 3 — in food have until Jan. 15, 2027, to reformulate their product, and manufacturers who use the dye in ingested drugs have until Jan. 18, 2028, to reformulate. Foods imported to the U.S. from countries where red dye No. 3 is still allowed will also need to comply with the new U.S. requirements.

A lot of families are already checking ingredients and getting rid of Red Dye #3 in their own lives, I know my wife has gone through our cupboards and located all food that contained Red Dye #3 and tossed them into the trash.

It’ll take some time for all the moving parts to come into play but it looks like 2028 is the final cut-off year to make sure Red Dye #3 is fully banned in Washington State.
